As you may know from 23 to 26 June 2013 the 104Th Rotary International Convention will be held in Lisbon. As part of the Host Events, we are organizing the 2nd International Rotary Opera Contest (IROC).
The IROC is open to young lyric singers of all nationalities. The competitors will be aged between 18 and 33 years old on the 1st June 2013.
An IROC selection panel will choose a maximum of 24 singers to take part in the competition. Candidates will be informed whether they have been selected for the competition by 15 May, 2013
We recommend that the competitors may be supported by Rotary Districts or Rotary Clubs that want to participate in this project. In this case, the competitors will represent the sponsor Districts or sponsor Rotary Club.
Interested competitors, who qualify through this route, could be presented with a prize at a Rotary District or Rotary Club event, where they could give a musical performance.
These prizes would be “vouchers” contracted with a travel agency to allow the competitors to come to Lisbon and be accommodated for 5 days.
We estimate that the value of each “voucher” will vary between 750 Euros (for travel within Europe) and 1500 Euros (for travel from outside Europe) based upon an accommodation cost in Lisbon of 500 Euros maximum, the remainder being the travel cost.
To give you a better idea about this contest, please download the 1st IROC report here.
The Honor Committee of the 2nd IROC will include the names of the Governors of the Rotary Districts and the Presidents of the participating Rotary Clubs, to be invited in due course.
The Prize Ceremony will take place immediately after the final, on Jun 22.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and I hope that your feedback will be favourable.
